Just a very quick note to say a big well done to young Shane McGirr from Letterkenny at his win at 3DX this weekend.
3dx2009-20036
Shane has a massive talent and this is a massive win for this young 13 year old. Also well done to Christopher Kilpatrick also from Letterkenny who flew very well and had to battle with a suspect tail, Christopher finished 8th I beleive (I could be wrong on that). There was also Lee Curry, (9 years old) from Bangor who flew a Trex600 very well, his Dad was more nervous than him, a big well done to Lee.

The conditions were less than ideal and all pilots did superbly in the tough conditions.

A big thanks to David Nolan and the other organisers for this event.

And some of the events pictures can be found here

Hi to all,

I write you this email from a sunny Denmark & the Pitchbrothers Smackdown 3d helicopter Flyin, there is lots of heli flying and some top quality pilots.

As some of you know next weekend is 3dx Ireland, this is being organized by David and he has got a lot of big names to come and demo. One of the biggest names is Duncan Osbourne from England, he is amongst the worlds top pilots and is great to watch, he won 3d Masters back in 2005.

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pJJBE5fQwU

David has organized for him to come fly at our field on Thursday evening (14th), this will be a massive opportunity to see the worlds best and is not to be missed. We hope to fly from 6pm to dark, please come and support it, you’ll not be disappointed!!

Let me know if your coming, we will probably have the BBQ going as well!!

Thanks,

Matthew

Test Flight Off New Toffee Bomber

Today saw the test flight of the new Ultrastick 60 Toffee Bomber. Kees, myself and my Dad braved the strong (very strong!) wind and went flying. The test flight went well, the model flew very straight and true even in the wind, engine ran well and was giving out good power on 10% Contest 10 fuel.

It is good to fly a basic model again, it reminded me of wot4 type models we would have flown maybe 10 years ago, just a good honest high wing plane, it will make a good toffee bomber and sports model. I tried a few general aero’s and it does these exactly as expected, I did a bit of prop hanging, although it blew miles downwind it felt nice, so perhaps a new technique for dropping the toffees has been found!

New Toffee Bomber for Club/Local Displays

After many years the old toffee bomber has been retired! The super 60 has had a good career and dropped many pounds of toffee’s for many kids at many displays.

Retired after long service

Retired after long service

This can only mean one thing, a new toffee bomber! At this point I would to thank Horizon Hobby UK for supplying myself with a complete outfit for a toffee bomber, this is greatly appreciated by me and the club’s committee. The new bomber will see action at many club displays such as Delamont and at other local events like the ever popular DMFC flyin in September.

I choose a slighty different style of airplane for the task (you knew that would happen), as much as the 3 function Super 60 was a joy to fly, it lacked for me excitment, so I choose a model called the Ultrastick 60, an aerobatic trainer/funfly, now your talking!!

Tech Spec
Wingspan 167.6cm (66 inches)
Length 140cm (55 inches)
Engine Evolution 100NX
Weight 2.7-3.2kg (6-7lb)
Radio Spektrum DX7 & Receiver
Servos 7 DS821 servos
Wing area with quad flap 59.7 sq. dm (927 sq. ins)

We have had to do some modifying to get bomb bay in, but it has worked out ok and hasn’t added any weight worth worrying about the powerful 100 should pull this model about even full off toffees very quickly!

Hanger 9 Sukhoi coming soon (aka iphone post test!)

Hello,

Just a quick picture of my Hanger 9 Sukhoi which will be my new Freestyle Model for the IMAC 2009 season.

The model has kindly been supplied by Horizon Hobby UK. It is powered by an Evolution 80cc engine on a K+S tuned pipe, Spektrum guidance and JR servos. All up weight is less 23lbs which for a 97″ wingspan model is very light. The pictures show one in the flesh & the custom made manifold my dad made up. (a big thanks to Kees and Phelim for getting the various bits required!)

Check out horizonhobby & aerobaticsni for more details.
